Meaning of Alkane

Alkane

Alkane ( also called paraffin ) is a chemical compound acyclic saturated hydrocarbons . Alkanes including aliphatic compounds . In other words , alkanes is a long carbon chain with single bonds .

The general formula for alkanes is CnH2n +2 . The simplest alkane is methane with the formula CH4 . There is no limit how much carbon can be tied together . Some types of oils and waxes are examples of alkanes with atomic number of carbon atoms is large , can be more than 10 carbon atoms .

Each carbon atom has 4 bonds ( either CH or CC bond bonds ) , and each hydrogen atom must be bonded to the carbon atom ( HC bonds ) . A collection of carbon atoms strung collectively, the formula framework . In general , the number of carbon atoms is used to measure how much the size of the alkane ( eg, C2 - alkane ) .

Alkyl group , usually abbreviated with the symbol R , is a functional group , which as alkanes , consisting of a single carbon-carbon bonds and hydrogen atoms , for example methyl or ethyl group .
